The Italian association Assogasliquidi has released a position paper outlining measures to boost the competitiveness of the country's liquefied biomethane market, also known as bioLNG.

The goal is to promote one of Europe's most advanced biomethane and BioLNG supply chains, built using 300 million euros in public and private investment.

According to Assogasliquidi, the measures needed include launching a technical process to promote the use of bioLNG for consumption, unlocking the CIC system for liquefied BioLNG, simplifying certification for ETS markets, and incentivizing negative carbon intensity.

The association also recommends extending the scope of Ministerial Decree 2018 to international maritime transport, supporting demand and infrastructure for LNG/BioLNG road transport, and providing targeted incentives such as tax credits and toll discounts.
