AT&T Offers $10K Reward as Copper Theft Epidemic Hits Georgia

AT&T is facing an 'alarming increase' in copper wire thefts across several states, including Georgia. The company has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Copper prices have risen by 76% in Georgia over the past month alone, making it a valuable commodity. Thieves often mistake fiber cables for copper cables, which can affect fiber coverage.

The company has reported multiple arrests for copper wire thefts in the past few years, with recent incidents including thieves dressed as construction workers slashing utility poles in Sugar Hill, Georgia, and stealing nearly 4,000 feet of copper. According to Brandon Hartley, AT&T External Affairs Director, 'the metal is infinitely recyclable and is in demand to help make electric vehicles, solar panels, electrical wiring, and more.'
