August Gas Prices on Track to Set New Record
The national average price for regular gasoline has been above $4 per gallon every day in August for the first time ever.
As of August 27, 2026, the national average is at $4.09 per gallon, which is one cent lower than last week but still high due to continued volatility in the Strait of Hormuz.
Crude oil prices remain in the $80 per barrel range, and this month is likely to set a new record as the most expensive August at the pump, surpassing the previous record set in 2022.
