Australian Winter Crop Production Expected to Be Strong

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) released its September Crop Report, showing that Australia is on track to produce ample winter crops due to good season conditions in major growing regions. The report noted a 1.1% increase in wheat plantings nationally, but forecast yields were where the main changes occurred.

Good winter rainfall in Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia bumped production higher, with ABARES lifting the forecast yield by 11.7%, or 3.1mmt to 29.8mmt, which would be the eighth largest crop on record but down 17% on 2025.

The lower yields in WA and NSW were somewhat offset by better yields in Victoria and South Australia, with SA growers headed for their second-highest yield on record at 2.93t/ha.
