Australia's Fuel Supplies Remain Secure Amid Diesel Demand Surge
Australia's fuel supplies remain secure despite a surge in diesel demand, according to Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen.
Bowen acknowledged that Australians are concerned about fuel availability but assured them that the country has enough diesel stockpiled to meet current demands. He noted that Australia has as much diesel stockpiled today as it did before the crisis began, with a 32-day minimum stock obligation for companies.
The Minister emphasized that the government is seeing a huge spike in demand, particularly for diesel, but maintained that there's no need for panic buying. Every expected arrival of diesel supply has arrived on schedule, and Bowen stressed that this is managing a surge in demand rather than an impact on supply.
Bowen convened a roundtable meeting with the National Farmers Federation, oil companies, and peak industry groups to discuss the fuel situation. The government will continue working with these groups to ensure that as much diesel as possible flows to farmers, who are struggling due to high demand and rising costs.
