Avocado Oil Makers Expose Diluted Products on Supermarket Shelves

A group of Australian and New Zealand avocado oil makers have raised concerns about the purity of products sold in supermarkets. The Avocado Trust, which commissioned independent testing through Eurofins Central Analytical Laboratories, found that some products were diluted with other ingredients not on the label.

The testing showed signs of dilution in products sold under the Cocolife, HBC Trading Chef's Choice, and Cherry Creek Estate brand names. While all three brands are Australia-based, Cocolife products were also sold in New Zealand.

Cocolife rejected the allegations that its avocado oil products are not 100% avocado oil, stating that their processes, products, and supply chain are independently audited by SGS.

Professor Selina Wang from the University of California, Davis reviewed the Avocado Trust's test results and believed they showed signs of dilution. She stated that the profile she saw is inconsistent with authentic avocado oil.

The Avocado Trust is calling for a dedicated agency similar to the UK's food crime unit to investigate matters of food fraud.
