Azerbaijan Expands Gas Exports to Europe Amid Growing Renewable Energy Ambitions

Azerbaijan is expanding its gas exports to Europe and other markets, solidifying its position as a key energy partner for the EU. The country's Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, announced this goal during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Azerbaijan currently supplies natural gas to 16 countries and is developing new export routes. Bayramov emphasized that traditional energy resources will remain in demand in the short term, while also highlighting the importance of renewable energy sources.

The country is investing heavily in solar, wind, and hydropower, with plans to add around 6 GW of capacity by 2030. This move is expected to enable Azerbaijan to export green electricity to Europe, which would account for nearly 40% of the country's electricity generation by that time.

In addition to its gas exports, Azerbaijan has also become a vital transport and logistics hub between Europe and Asia. The volume of freight transported along the Middle Corridor has risen by nearly 90%, making it an important artery for global trade.
