Bahamas Gets Floating LNG Terminal from Focol-Shell and ECOnnect
Focol Holdings and Shell's New Providence Gas joint venture has signed an agreement with ECOnnect Energy to deliver a floating LNG import terminal for its Bahamas project.
The terminal, named La Santa Maria, will be delivered from Norway this autumn and will enable LNG imports into New Providence. Once operational, it will support electricity generation as a cleaner and potentially more affordable alternative to oil-based fuels used by the country's power utility, Bahamas Power & Light (BPL).
ECOnnect Energy's IQuay C-Class floating terminal is designed to connect LNG carriers directly to onshore storage without requiring fixed jetties or extensive coastal construction. This approach significantly reduces marine construction and limits disturbance to coastal environments.
The agreement marks the latest infrastructure development for Focol-Shell's New Providence LNG project, which will receive, store, and regasify LNG for delivery as natural gas to power generation facilities on the island.
