US energy company Baker Hughes has entered into two key agreements aimed at developing Venezuela's natural gas and energy infrastructure. The first is a strategic alliance with state-owned PDVSA, Lindsayca, and Fulcrum LNG, while the second is a memorandum of understanding with New Stratus Energy.

The partnership with PDVSA focuses on restoring and expanding Venezuela's gas infrastructure, covering everything from field development to potential exports. Baker Hughes CEO Lorenzo Simonelli highlighted the goal of transforming Venezuela's resources into reliable domestic supplies and future export opportunities. The country is seen as having significant potential in the evolving global energy market.

In the immediate term, the companies will assess necessary repairs and improvements to boost natural gas supplies for the local market and power generation. Long-term plans include evaluating the construction of open-access transmission and LNG infrastructure to help PDVSA and other producers maximize their resources. The framework agreement does not specify financial details or timelines, and each project will require separate approvals and compliance with US sanctions.

The memorandum with New Stratus Energy supports future oil and gas projects, incorporating technologies for exploration, drilling, production, processing, electricity generation, and emission reduction. Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez met with a Baker Hughes delegation on October 2 to discuss these operational partnerships and gas projects. Baker Hughes has maintained a presence in Venezuela for over 60 years, with extensive installed base systems in the country.
