The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in Bangladesh has approved an emergency import of eight liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes and 5,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to strengthen the country's energy security.

The approval was granted at a meeting chaired by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury. The government will directly purchase eight LNG cargoes from four different companies: BlackCube International, Global Fuel Supplies, Plentitude Energy, and Maxwell International.

The import of 5,000 tonnes of LPG from Speed Marketing Corporation is also approved to stabilize domestic LPG supply and prices. Additionally, the committee cleared the government-funded purchase of 200 electric buses for the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), including charging stations and supporting infrastructure.
