Bangladesh Approves LNG Cargoes Amid Geopolitical Tensions

The Bangladeshi government has approved the purchase of eight cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet the country's urgent gas demand amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The approval was given at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division submitted three proposals for the purchase of LNG, which were approved in total. Under one proposal, four cargoes will be procured directly from Zhenyu Shipping Co., Limited, Hong Kong, and PETRONAS LNG Ltd., Malaysia. Two more cargoes will come from China Runze Holdings Group Limited through direct international procurement.

Additionally, two cargoes will be bought directly from DARAB Inc., USA, to meet Bangladesh's urgent gas needs. The government is seeking to ensure uninterrupted gas supply in the face of heightened geopolitical uncertainty and pressure on energy markets.
