Bangladesh Energy Crisis: Balancing Domestic Production and Imported LNG
Bangladesh's energy crisis is no longer just about keeping factories running and lights on. It has become an economic competitiveness issue, affecting foreign-exchange management, investment, and industrial growth.
Natural gas remains a central challenge as it is the primary fuel for much of the country's power generation and essential input for industries like textiles, garments, fertilizers, ceramics, and manufacturing sectors.
The government needs to balance domestic production with imported LNG. While Bangladesh has 7.63 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas reserves, the focus should be on maximizing production from existing fields and accelerating new exploration.
