Bangladesh Faces Gas and Power Crisis Amid Declining Production
The gas and power sectors in Bangladesh are facing multiple crises due to declining gas production, increasing LNG prices, and government debt.
Gas production has been decreasing for nine years, making it difficult for the country to meet its electricity demands. The war in the Middle East has further complicated matters by disrupting LNG imports under short- and long-term contracts.
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) is considering increasing electricity generation from oil-fired plants to ease pressure on gas supplies. A plan has been drawn up to generate 4,000 megawatts from oil-fired plants using imported oil.
