Bangladesh Gas Crisis Deepens Amid Disrupted Weather Conditions

A severe gas crisis is unfolding in Bangladesh as LNG regasification has plummeted to 300 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) due to disruptive weather conditions.

The drop of 750 mmcfd from the peak was caused by rough seas affecting LNG conversion, leaving industries, power plants, households, and other gas consumers struggling.

The repaired FSRU owned by US's Excelerate Energy is supplying most of the regasified LNG, while the remaining one, owned by Summit group, has seen its regasification dip below 100 mmcfd due to 'rough weather'.

The country's overall gas supply has fallen below 2,000 mmcfd, a senior Petrobangla official told The Financial Express on Thursday.
