Bangladesh Gold Prices Spike Again Amid Domestic Market Volatility
Gold prices in Bangladesh have surged again after a one-day cut by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus). The price of 22-carat gold has increased by Tk3,661 per bhori to Tk235,541, while 21-carat gold now costs Tk224,990, and 18-carat gold is priced at Tk192,782. One bhori is equivalent to 11.664 grams.
The new rate took effect at 10am on Saturday and will remain in place until further notice. Bajus said the latest increase was driven by a rise in the price of pure gold, known locally as tejabi gold. The association also revised silver prices, with a gram of 22-carat silver now costing Tk430.
It's not the first time this week that gold prices have been adjusted. Just a day prior, Bajus cut the price of 22-carat gold to Tk231,880 per bhori. The association had revised the rate on September 9, when 22-carat gold was priced at Tk234,038.
The latest hike reflects continued volatility in the domestic market. To mitigate this, Bajus has introduced new rules for jewellery making charges, which will depend on the design. VAT is already included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, so jewellers cannot charge it separately.
