Bangladesh Industry Sees Slow Recovery from Gas Crisis
Industrial production in Bangladesh is slowly returning to normalcy as gas supply and pressure improve. Manufacturers are taking various initiatives, such as extended working hours and production on holidays, to make up for output shortfalls caused by a recent gas crisis.
Industry entrepreneurs say the improved gas situation has brought relief to gas-dependent industries and created opportunities for increased production. However, many factories are still operating beyond regular hours to recover lost production during the crisis.
Former BGMEA president S M Fazlul Hoque said it's difficult to maintain a fully normal situation amid the global oil and energy crisis, but the government is working to maintain normalcy in different sectors, including electricity. He expressed hope that production will become more normal within a short time through joint efforts by the government and industry owners.
Shahid Reza Shimul, Chairman of Reza Group, said production is gradually returning to normal as gas supply has improved. Workers are now working an additional two to three hours every day to make up for the production shortfall. Besides, production is also being maintained on Fridays, the weekly holiday.
