The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) is planning to build a 100MW skid-mounted, gas-fired power plant on Bhola island to utilize the country's long-stranded natural and diversified energy sources.

State-run BPDB plans to float a tender soon to select a contractor for building the plant within the shortest possible time, according to BPDB Chairman Md Rezaul Karim.

The power plant would be fast-tracked to meet the growing electricity demand while reducing reliance on costly imported liquefied natural gas (LNG),

The plant's construction might take around six months after awarding the project to the bid winner, said the BPDB chairman. The electricity generated from the plant could be transmitted immediately through existing power transmission lines.
