Bangladesh Poultry Feed Prices Surge Amid Raw Material Cost Increases

Poultry feed prices have surged by nearly 7% in Bangladesh since early August due to rising raw material costs.

Corn, de-oiled rice bran (DORB), and soybean meal prices have increased sharply, with DORB up 27% and soybean meal up 20%, according to industry stakeholders. Feed manufacturers say they are still losing over Tk3 per kilogram as finished-feed prices have not fully reflected rising raw-material costs.

The price of a kilogram of animal feed has risen from around Tk68 in early August to Tk72.50, with major raw materials becoming more expensive. Mosharraf Hossain Chowdhury, president of the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Association (BPIA), said soybean prices had risen from around $430 per tonne in August to $530, an increase of over 20%.

Rising feed costs are forcing farmers to reduce production, with feed accounting for a major share of poultry farming expenses. Farmers have demanded lower taxes and cheaper feed inputs, citing difficulties in purchasing feed at higher prices and reduced farm output putting pressure on egg and chicken supplies.
