Bangladesh Secures Additional LNG Cargoes for August
The Bangladeshi government plans to import an additional five cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in August, totaling approximately 16 million British thermal units (MMBtu). This move aims to maintain stability in the country's gas supply system. The extra LNG will be purchased through a combination of long-term and short-term contracts as well as spot market arrangements.
Petrobangla Director (Finance) A K M Mizanur Rahman stated that these additional cargoes were secured to meet Bangladesh's growing energy demand. Each cargo contains around 3.2 million MMBtu of LNG, with nine total cargoes scheduled for import in August.
According to Petrobangla sources, one cargo was purchased under a long-term contract, five under short-term contracts, and three from the spot market. The government also procured LNG from QatarEnergy, OQ Trading (the Sultanate of Oman's energy and commodities trading arm), and Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL) under existing agreements.
