Bangladesh Seeks LNG Assistance from Malaysia Amid Shortage

Bangladesh is facing a severe liquefied natural gas (LNG) shortage, prompting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to reveal that his country has requested Malaysia's assistance in meeting its urgent needs. The matter was discussed during a telephone conversation between Anwar and Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday.

Anwar stated that the two leaders also explored opportunities for economic cooperation, including investments involving Axiata and potential strategic partnerships with MMC Port to strengthen ties and create mutual benefits.

The LNG shortage in Bangladesh has been exacerbated by a recent industrial accident and the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Malaysia is committed to strengthening its long-standing friendship with Bangladesh based on mutual respect and pragmatic cooperation, according to Anwar.
