Bangladesh Sees Significant Improvement in Gas Supply with LNG Imports

Bangladesh's gas supply has improved significantly due to increased imports of regasified liquefied natural gas (LNG). According to the latest data from the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the country's total gas supply reached 2,610 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) at noon on Tuesday. This represents a notable increase in gas supply, which is expected to ease pressure on the country's gas distribution system.

The majority of this increased supply comes from domestic gas fields, which supplied 1,620 mmcfd. However, regasified LNG contributed 990 mmcfd, making up nearly 38% of the total supply. This reliance on imported LNG is a result of declining domestic production and high demand for gas in industries, power plants, and other gas-dependent consumers.

The improved gas supply is expected to provide relief to these consumers, who have faced supply constraints due to the shortage of natural gas. As Bangladesh's gas network continues to rely more heavily on LNG imports, it remains to be seen how this will impact the country's energy landscape in the long term.
