Bangladesh Widens LNG Supplier Pool Amid Gas Crisis
Bangladesh is expanding its pool of approved international LNG suppliers in an effort to reduce reliance on the volatile spot market and lower procurement costs.
The government has invited applications from potential suppliers to procure liquefied natural gas (LNG) on a spot basis, with a deadline for submission set for September 15th.
Petrobangla's director of finance, AKM Mizanur Rahman, confirmed the initiative, stating that only a handful of the 27 currently listed suppliers regularly participate in spot LNG tenders.
The spot market has become increasingly important as Bangladesh has relied on it to overcome gas shortages and disruptions caused by contractual supply issues.
