Bangladesh's Energy Crisis Intensifies with Daily Peak Load Shedding Exceeding 3,000 MW

Bangladesh is facing a severe energy crisis, with daily peak load shedding exceeding 3,000 megawatts for nearly a week. The shortage has been caused by a combination of falling power generation and rising electricity demand.

The country's energy woes have intensified due to a sharp decline in natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies, which are reducing electricity generation and affecting households, industries, and transportation.

According to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), peak load shedding reached 3,757 MW on Monday, increased from 3,671 MW on Sunday. The shortage has become particularly difficult in rural areas, where some communities are reportedly receiving electricity for only five to seven hours a day.
