Ukraine Seeks Ceasefire in Black Sea Amid Fears of Global Food Crisis
Ukraine has proposed to Russia that both countries halt attacks on civilian targets in the Black Sea, citing concerns over global food supplies.
The proposal was conveyed through a third party and Ukraine is still waiting for a response from Moscow. Both sides have accused each other of increased attacks on ships used to export agricultural products.
Russia's de facto blockade of Ukraine's Black Sea ports in the Odessa region has led to a 76 percent year-on-year decline in Ukrainian grain exports so far in August, according to Reuters.
