The Bank of Korea has disclosed its investment in gold through an exchange-traded fund (ETF), marking its first public gold investment since buying physical gold in 2013. The central bank purchased and held 679,765 shares of SPDR Gold Trust, valued at approximately US$250.4 million as of the end of June. This move is distinct from the Bank's recent announcement to purchase domestically produced gold.

A Bank of Korea official clarified that this ETF investment is unrelated to the central bank's plan to buy gold locally. The investment was revealed in a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing, providing insight into the Bank's diversification strategy.
