Bayelsa Guber Aspirant Demands Industrial Justice for Niger Delta

A governorship aspirant in Bayelsa State, Dr Domor Mienye, is calling for a new development strategy for the Niger Delta region. He argues that after seven decades of commercial oil exploration and production, it's time to move beyond environmental and fiscal justice to include what he describes as 'industrial justice'.

Mienye made this call in response to recent comments by former President Goodluck Jonathan and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri on 70 years of oil exploration. He notes that the Niger Delta has contributed significantly to Nigeria's economy, but the region still struggles with environmental degradation, inadequate industrial development, and limited economic opportunities.

Mienye advocates for 'industrial justice', which he believes means using natural resources and generated revenues to build industries that create jobs and long-term prosperity. He wants Bayelsa and other Niger Delta states to focus on developing value-added industries such as fertilisers, petrochemicals, refined petroleum products, and technology.
