Beijing Orders State-Run LNG Buyers to Hold Back on Resales Before Winter

China's government is taking steps to ensure adequate liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies for the upcoming winter. Authorities are urging state-owned LNG buyers to curb resales of the fuel in the run-up to winter. This move aims to cope with an increase in consumption for heating during the peak-demand season.

According to people familiar with the matter, the government is encouraging companies to sell less LNG later this year and early in 2027. These individuals, who asked not to be named as they are not authorized to speak to the media, have provided insight into the government's plans.
