Bhola Gas Holds Key to Bangladesh's Energy Future
Bangladesh is focusing on its Bhola gas resources to meet growing demand and reduce dependence on imported liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The island district of Bhola has three discovered gas fields - Shahbazpur, Bhola North, and Ilisha - which hold an estimated 2.047 trillion cubic feet of gas.
Around 1.432-1.433 trillion cubic feet is considered recoverable, according to various estimates, making up nearly 19 percent of the country's remaining extractable gas reserves.
The Energy Ministry and Petrobangla have identified nine wells in Bhola with the potential to supply around 182 million cubic feet of gas per day, but currently only about 75 mmcfd is being utilized due to infrastructure limitations.
