BHP and Amazon Launch Copper Emissions Tracking Pilot

BHP and Amazon have launched a pioneering pilot project to track lower greenhouse gas emissions in the copper supply chain. The initiative links production from BHP's Escondida mine in Chile with Amazon's infrastructure.

The companies will test the purchase and sale of Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs) associated with copper concentrate and cathodes produced at Escondida, the world's largest copper mine.

Escondida sources its electricity from renewable energy and uses desalinated water. The copper it produces feeds applications ranging from energy infrastructure to artificial intelligence infrastructure.

BHP is expanding its portfolio of trials targeting emissions within both its operations and downstream supply chains.
