Black Rain Pours Down on Tehran After Israeli Strikes on Oil Facilities

Thick black clouds shrouded Tehran's skies Sunday morning after Israeli strikes hit Iran's oil storage sites the day before. Residents told the BBC that last night was the worst since the US-Israeli offensive began a week ago.

CNN footage showed rainwater mixed with oil pooling on streets, as smoke from the burning facilities blanketed the city. The black rain fell after airborne oil from the strikes contaminated it, according to CNN correspondent Fred Pleitgen.

The Israeli military struck 30 fuel storage tanks in Tehran Saturday night, used by Iran's military forces, and three oil depots in Kohak, Shahran, and Karaj, Iran's Fars News Agency reported. The strike marked the first time during Operation Roaring Lion that the military targeted Iranian national infrastructure.

The IDF said the Israeli strikes aimed to degrade Iran's military infrastructure and remove threats to Israel. 'The military forces of the Iranian terrorist regime use fuel tanks directly and frequently to operate military infrastructure,' an IDF statement read.
