Black Sea Blockade Threatens Ukraine Grain Exports as Romania and Poland Limit Transit Capacity
Romania and Poland are limiting their infrastructure's capacity to transport Ukrainian grain due to ongoing Black Sea attacks, threatening Ukraine's exports and global food security.
The situation is critical as less than half of Ukraine's agricultural exports can be transported by rail, road, or river through Europe.
Ukraine's Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotskyi has called for the European Union to allow larger quantities of agricultural products to transit and allocate approximately €1.1 billion to cover additional transport costs.
With up to 35 million tonnes of grain at risk, Romania is facing pressure on its ports due to low water levels on the Danube, while Poland does not intend to modify its infrastructure to increase transit capacity.
