Black Sea Conflict Sparks Grain Market Volatility

The global logistics risk tied to conflicts in the Black Sea and Middle East has significantly impacted grain and oilseed markets. Arlan Suderman of StoneX stated that strikes on export infrastructure are limiting Russia and Ukraine's ability to move commodities, making it difficult for the market to respond accurately to reports.

Suderman is skeptical about the recent peace headlines between Ukraine and Russia, saying Ukraine believes it has momentum through drone technology. He warned against losing sight of the fact that major commodity logistics conflicts have become 'wars' in the world.

The USDA's 180.7 bushel-per-acre corn yield was generally in line with expectations, but Suderman noted that support from the Plains may not be as strong this season. The next question for corn is harvested acres, especially in drier areas of the western Corn Belt.
