Black Sea Disruptions Drive Wheat Futures Surge
Wheat futures saw significant gains on Wednesday, driven by concerns over grain movement from the Black Sea region. The surge in prices provided a welcome boost to cash bids for farmers bringing their crops to market.
Cash bids strengthened across the Prairies, with some producers seeing bids between $8.50 and $9 per bushel for spring wheat. This comes as harvest activity expands beyond lentils and into cereals in many areas.
According to Jonathan Meyer, Senior Trader with JGL Commodities, difficulties moving grain out of the Black Sea region have prompted traditional buyers to seek supplies from alternative exporting countries.
