Black Sea Shipping Concerns Lift UK Wheat Futures

UK wheat futures strengthened slightly last week due to concerns over shipping from the Black Sea region. The Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB) noted that prices for UK wheat futures rose by £3/t (1.5%) for the week ending Friday, August 7.

The AHDB attributed the price rise to further attacks on shipping and ports in the Black Sea, which has limited exports from the region. European wheat prices also rose during this period due to the conflict's impact on shipping costs.

However, the AHDB cautioned that expectations of good crops in both markets have limited the price rises. The board highlighted that the conflict will remain a key driver in the weeks ahead.
