Black Sea Tensions Spark Wheat Rally Amid Corn and Soybean Gains
The wheat market rallied on Friday as tensions between Russia and Ukraine escalated, hampering grain movement from the Black Sea. The conflict led to a sharp increase in US wheat futures.
Russia rejected a Ukrainian ceasefire proposal, while Ukraine's military struck a Russian gas condensate processing complex. Although no damage was done to grain facilities, the heightened concerns boosted wheat markets.
Corn futures at the Chicago Board of Trade also rose, with support from the advances in wheat and traders dissecting supply/demand estimates from the US Department of Agriculture. The cuts to US corn yields and ending stocks remained supportive, but a revision higher in US corn production tempered upside potential.
