Black Sea War Disrupts Global Food Supplies as Companies Scramble for Replacement Shipments
A crisis is brewing in the Black Sea region as Russia's war with Ukraine escalates, threatening to disrupt global food supplies. For companies like Golden Wheat, this means scrambling to find replacement shipments of wheat from other regions.
Tue Vuong, CEO of Golden Wheat in Ho Chi Minh City, had secured four cargoes of wheat harvested around the Black Sea, accounting for a fifth of his company's annual needs. However, with the war intensifying over the summer, he was informed that none of these shipments would be allowed to depart.
Vuong expressed concern about being 'very exposed to a crisis in the Black Sea,' and spent weeks searching for alternative suppliers, eventually finding replacements for two of his cargoes from Bulgaria. This experience has left him aware of the risks of relying on this critical region for food imports.
