BoG Governor Accused of Conflict of Interest on GoldBod Board
Former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam is calling for the removal of Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Asiama from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
Adam raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest due to the central bank's financial dealings with GoldBod, which amounts to GH¢133 billion.
'If a so-called independent institution and a government institution are to go into a deal amounting to GH¢133 billion, where is the agreement that defines that relationship? What are the terms?' Adam asked.
Adam also questioned whether the Bank of Ghana was aware of the potential financial losses resulting from these transactions, given its knowledge of gold prices at which GoldBod purchases and sells gold.
