Bond Market Pressure Slows US Stock Rally
Wall Street stocks experienced a bumpy ride on Thursday as the bond market and oil prices continued to exert pressure.
The S&P 500 index closed nearly flat, down by less than 0.1%, after several reversals throughout the day.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 161 points, or 0.3%, while the Nasdaq composite added less than 0.1%.
The rising 10-year Treasury yield, which reached 5.20%, is a concern for stocks and the overall economy, making borrowing more expensive and undercutting investment prices.
This week's rally in US stocks has slowed down as investors remain cautious about inflation, war, and tariffs.
