BP Profits Soar to $5.7 Billion Amid Global Energy Disruptions
BP's profits have more than doubled to $5.73 billion for the second quarter of this year, driven by soaring oil prices linked to disruptions in global energy supplies.
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has led to a significant increase in Brent crude prices, averaging $103.85 per barrel during the quarter, compared to just $67.88 a year earlier.
BP's Chief Executive Meg O'Neill acknowledged that the company is still not reaching its full financial potential and emphasized the need for a strategic shift towards long-term competitive returns.
The corporation has announced plans to sell its US renewable natural gas business, Archaea, as well as its North Sea operations, which would mark an end to 60 years of regional production.
