bp, the British energy company, reported a significant surge in its second-quarter profit on Tuesday. The company's earnings jumped by approximately 150% to $5.73 billion for the April-June period, exceeding analysts' expectations of about $5.1 billion.

This substantial increase in profits is attributed to higher oil and natural gas prices, as well as improved refining margins. The global energy market experienced disruptions due to the US/Israel-Iran conflict, leading to increased prices for crude oil and natural gas.

bp's CEO, Meg O'Neill, commented on the company's performance during a challenging period. 'This is my first full quarter at bp, and it has been marked by one of the most disrupted periods in the global energy market,' she said. 'Through that, bp's team has stepped up, working tirelessly to keep energy flowing for our customers.'

O'Neill also highlighted the company's efforts to strengthen its balance sheet and simplify its operations. In recent weeks, bp announced plans to sell several assets, including its Gelsenkirchen refinery, retail business in Austria, North Sea business in the UK, and biogas business in the US.
