Brazilian Company Seeks Authorization for Carbon Capture Project
EnduraCarbon, a company founded by former Petrobras and biofuel industry executives, is seeking authorization from Brazil's National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) to test a carbon capture project. The project aims to capture CO2 emissions from ethanol plants in the state of São Paulo and store them underground.
The company plans to develop a hub with underground injection wells that can receive liquefied CO2 emitted by different mills. This will generate carbon removal credits for companies seeking to offset their greenhouse gas emissions.
According to EnduraCarbon, the project falls under bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), which uses carbon generated through bioenergy processing or biofuel production. The company estimates that the hub would require an investment of R$1.5 billion if testing confirms its viability.
