Brazil's Biologicals Market Growth Halted by Regulatory Delays
Brazil's biologicals market continued to expand in the first half of 2026, with both sales and treated acreage increasing. However, regulatory delays are raising concerns over the sector's ability to convert market growth into greater industrial competitiveness.
According to data released by CropLife Brasil, the Brazilian biologicals market generated BRL 1.82 billion in the first six months of 2026, up 9.6% from the same period last year. Treated acreage reached 46.2 million hectares, an 18.3% increase year on year.
The sector's growth is attributed to the increasing adoption of bioinsecticides, particularly driven by Brazil's second corn crop. Bionematicides and biofungicides also advanced as farmers prepared for the soybean planting season. Inoculants recorded significant growth in treated acreage, reflecting their strong correlation with soybean production.
However, the regulatory delays are hindering the sector's potential, according to Mauro Heringer, International Relations Director at the Brazilian Association of Biological Inputs Industries (ABINBIO). The average approval period for biological products increased to approximately 20 months in 2026, compared with the previous year.
