Brent Crude Surges Near 4% Amid Iran's Hardline Stance and Diesel Export Ban Fears
International oil prices rebounded significantly on Wednesday, snapping a five-session losing streak. Brent crude futures settled up nearly 4% to reclaim the $103-per-barrel level, with November futures rising $3.83 or 3.86% to settle at $103.08 per barrel.
The core catalyst for this rebound was Iran's hardline posture at the UN General Assembly. President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered a defiant 'never surrender' message, reigniting fears of Middle East supply disruptions. Iranian Secretary Mohsen Rezaei stated that the Strait of Hormuz would not reopen until Iran's conditions were met.
Reports of a potential U.S. diesel export ban also triggered sharp volatility in refined product markets. The news sent U.S. ultra-low sulfur diesel futures tumbling 5% intraday, but the contract ultimately settled down only 3.4%. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Trump administration is studying whether full or partial export restrictions are viable.
