Brent Crude Surges to $102.20 Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions
Oil prices surged on Wednesday after falling below $100 per barrel earlier in the week. The Brent crude price rose to $102.20 per barrel, while U.S. WTI stood at $91.43 per barrel.
The increase came despite reports that parties to the conflict in the Middle East were ready for peace talks. However, tensions remain high after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran was open to negotiations but would react negatively to the use of force.
Pezeshkian also described U.S. President Donald Trump's statements at the UN General Assembly as an example of pressure policy and said the Iranian people would not yield under such pressure.
The Iranian government presented the United States with several conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz, including ending the naval blockade of Iranian ports, lifting sanctions, and unfreezing Iranian assets. The U.S. did not reject these demands but also did not signal readiness to meet them.
