Brent Oil Holds Firm as Hormuz Disruption Continues
The price of Brent oil has held firm despite rising tensions in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz, through which millions of barrels of crude pass each day, remains closed due to ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.
The interim ceasefire agreement between the two countries expired on August 15, but negotiations to end the conflict and reopen the strait remain deadlocked. President Donald Trump is preparing new economic sanctions aimed at forcing Iran to capitulate.
Middle Eastern producers have been covertly moving millions of barrels through the waterway, limiting further price gains despite the disruption. A bilateral track between Iran and Oman appears to be establishing a mechanism for partial flow restoration independent of the stalled US-Iran negotiation.
