Oil Prices Rise Amid Escalating US-Iran Tensions
Oil prices rose on Monday as tensions between the US and Iran escalated. The Brent crude futures price increased by 72 cents to $89.20 per barrel, while the US West Texas Intermediate crude futures price rose by 44 cents to $82.83 a barrel.
The increase in oil prices comes after talks between the two countries stalled and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz slowed down. Over the weekend, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Iran had not decided to resume talks with the US.
US President Donald Trump urged Americans to accept slightly higher gasoline prices while the conflict continues. The market is now pricing in increased geopolitical risks due to the stalled negotiations and reduced tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
