Brent Price Remains Elevated Amid US-Iran Negotiations
Crude oil prices have dipped as traders weigh US-Iran talks and supply risks. The Brent price remains over 70% higher for the year, adding to inflationary pressures.
The two countries are pushing for a breakthrough that would see Tehran reopen the Strait of Hormuz and Washington lift its blockade of Iranian ports. However, many traders remain skeptical, citing past failed negotiations and the need for tangible increases in supplies.
West Texas Intermediate futures traded below $94 a barrel, retreating slightly from a surge fueled by supply concerns and hawkish rhetoric.
A White House official stated that President Donald Trump remains open to talking with Iran but emphasized the US doesn't need to negotiate due to its strong position as a result of sanctions and the blockade. Emily Ashford, head of energy research at Standard Chartered Bank, noted that 'a similar deal has been announced so many times before, and we have seen little traction on it.'
