Brent Prices Soar as US-Iran Conflict Escalates
Oil prices jumped sharply after the US launched airstrikes against Iranian targets in response to recent attacks on American troops and vessels. The International benchmark Brent crude surged by 4.57% to $94.52 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate climbed about 5% to $90.03 per barrel.
The conflict escalation has pushed Brent prices above the $90 threshold for the first time since July 24. The recent hostilities in the Middle East have raised concerns about the stability of energy supplies and the potential impact on global markets.
Analysts believe that the US strike is aimed at punishing specific Iranian behavior rather than broadening its war aims. 'By hitting the launchers rather than broader Iranian military infrastructure, the U.S. appears to be punishing a specific behaviour rather than, at least for now, broadening its war aims,' said Ali Vaez of the International Crisis Group.
The ongoing conflict between the US and Iran has already disrupted energy flows and rattled markets. With Brent prices back above $90, consumers can expect higher fuel costs and potentially ripple effects on other industries that rely on oil.
