Bulgarian Grain Producers Suffer Cost Increases Despite Stable Wheat Prices
Grain producers in Bulgaria are facing significant increases in costs for production, but the purchase price of wheat remains relatively stable. According to Lyudmil Rabotov from the Management Board of the Grain Producers Association, prices for fuel, fertilizers, and plant protection products have risen by between 30 and 50%. This means that the cost price of wheat has increased to approximately 150 euros per decare.
Rabotov notes that the purchase price of wheat remains around 160-180 euros per ton, similar to previous years. However, domestic consumption is relatively low, at about 1.5 million tons annually, with a significant portion being exported.
The association expects bread producers to try to limit any increase in bread prices and considers the planned state aid of 44 euro cents per liter of gas oil to be insufficient. Producers are urging for the funds to be paid as soon as possible, ahead of the autumn sowing season.
