Cabinet Raises Wheat MSP to Rs 2610 per Quintal for 2027-28 Crop Year

The Union Cabinet has approved an increase in the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat for the 2027-28 rabi marketing year. The new MSP is set at Rs 2,610 per quintal, up from Rs 2,585 per quintal for the current crop year. This represents a nominal hike of Rs 25 per quintal.

The decision was made based on the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP). The CACP's proposal took into account factors such as cost of production, El Nino concerns, and global and domestic price trends.

The agriculture ministry has set a wheat production target of 121 million tonnes for the current crop year. Wheat is the main rabi crop in India, with sowing usually beginning in October and harvesting starting in April.
